Masterclass Special – Finding strength & mobility of the Spine
January 10, 19.00-21.00
Moving through a sequence that layers our strength and range of motion of the spine and connections you’ll find a greater stability that takes less effort. You’ll find more freedom in the movement of the spine that can travel outwards for more flexibility and downward to create more grounding. Our yoga practice gives opportunity to let go of unwanted patterns, behavior, stories and limitations allowing us to cultivate a relationship with our inner self. One that becomes the most important relationship of all. Using awareness of sensation Julie will guide you to explore natural spirals, waves, pulses, expansion and contraction, integrated movement, breath and pause.
In the Masterclass format we take our time, break down the information, reflect on experiencing movement in different ways.
Fascia & Movement in Stillness
Part 1 – Theory Workshop: Friday 11th Jan, 12pm – 3pm
Unraveling the mysteries of the fascial network, why it is important and what it means in terms of our yoga practice. The word fascia gets used a lot in the yoga community and yet often we can be confused about what it is and why it might be useful for us to understand. In simple terms it is a vast network of connective tissue that surrounds, connects and informs almost all other tissue in your body. That’s a big deal, but what does that mean to you as a yoga practitioner? Julie will take you through an anatomical examination of how it effects muscle movement, bone structure and its intricate relationship with the nervous system. As well, discover how our movement and emotional patterns are linked intimately with how our fascia moves or feels stuck.
In the practical part of the workshop we’ll play with a variety of movement exercises fascia needs to maintain mobility, strength and health in general. Applying those principles to our yoga asana and pranayama you’ll experience the sensation of working with the internal magic of your fascia.
Part 2 – Full Practice Session: Friday 11th Jan, 4.30pm – 6.45pm
Using a full sequenced class we’ll take all the information explored in the earlier session and discover range of motion, strength and stability as well as the role our fascia plays in sending information to the nervous system and what that means for our practice as moving meditation. The interplay of movement and stillness will be emphasized so that we take time to feel, sense and experience our bodies with new awareness.
This workshop is open to all and recommended to anyone interested in learning more about how their body works and how that can be applied to a yoga practice.
